Fast-food workers strike, citing low wages: 'It's not enough'
Thu Apr 4, 2013
If you work for minimum wage, you'll need two minimum-wage jobs to get by. And a roommate, and housing in a not-so-expenisve area, and a bus pass. The reality is that just about anyone can do these unskilled jobs, so they aren't ever going to be highly paid. Econ 101
Hundreds of teens mob pedestrians on Chicago's Magnificent Mile
Mon Apr 1, 2013
Depressing. And why have I not seen this on other news sites? It's just as buried as last week's baby-killer.

Working women respond to Sandberg's 'Lean In' revolution
Thu Mar 14, 2013
The missing point here is that children (of any age -- not just little children) have many needs that must be met by someone. Children's needs cannot just be 'farmed out.' Many families recognize that and have gladly waved as the train rolled on by. We don't want 'it all.'

Fri Jan 11, 2013
Unfortunately, the surviving victims and their families are about to get a long, slow education about the rights of accused criminals. This is just the first of what will seem like endless postponements.
India gang-rape case: Accused duo offer to testify against others
Mon Jan 7, 2013
No plea deals! They have DNA evidence on these guys -- that should be enough for the prosecution! I hope the family has some input into how the prosecution unfolds. I'm sure they don't want any 'deals' for these 'men.'

Weight gain won't budge after menopause? Study offers diet strategies
Tue Aug 28, 2012
Fellow middle-aged women, I never thought I'd do it, but I did, and I'm glad -- try a mostly vegan diet. I cut out meat and dairy and had a gradual 10 pound weight loss with virtually no effort.
